Project Description
Villa di Massenzio
It’s an imperial villa built by Emperor Massenzio. The complex is located between the second and third mile of via Appia Antica and is divided into three main buildings: the palace, the Massenzio circus and the dynastic mausoleum, designed in an inseparable architectonic unit to celebrate Massenzio.
The best-known monument in the whole complex is the Massenzio circus, the only Roman circus that is still whole from the point of view of its architectonical structure.
There is a dynastic mausoleum also known as the Tomb of Romolous, from Valerio Romolo, the young son of the emperor, who was supposedly buried here, inside a quadriporticus on Via Appia Antica.
