Project Description
National Museum of the Early Middle Ages
The National Museum of the Early Middle Age, inaugurated in 1967 in the Sciences Building in EUR district with the purpose of endowing Rome with a post-Classical archaeological museum and promoting research in a significant period for the study of the transformation of the ancient world, exhibits materials dating between the 4th and the 14th centuries found mostly in Rome and central Italy.
The route through the museum begins with a display of a few items that date to the period of late antiquity, specifically three imperial portraits from the 5th to 6th centuries AD. The next two rooms are home to a mixture of exhibits from the Longobard era (6-8C AD), including grave goods, arms and a variety of ornaments. Note that the museum only has items that portray the post-classic era, most of which come from areas associated with ancient Rome in central Italy
