Project Description

Museum of Roman Civilization

The Museum documents many aspects of Roman civilization, such as its customs and traditions, thanks to a very rich collection of copies of statues, moulds in bas-relief, architectonic miniature models of both individual works and monumental complexes, and plastics of large dimensions.

All artefacts are made with such accuracy that they can be considered real works of art. Among the exhibited pieces, two catch the eye before all the others: the complete series of moulds belonging to the Trajan column and the large plastic of Imperial Rome.

The visit to the Museum of Roman Civilization is complementary to the observation of ancient monuments in the capital, as it enlarges the visitor’s knowledge of the most important works that Roman culture left outside its city and all around the vast territory that was influenced by it. It is also a way of getting to know many aspects of everyday life in the empire. Thanks to the small models of the Roman monuments, the visit will also help you have a better idea of their structure and original appearance. This is the reason why the museum has a strong didactic and documentary value, even though there are practically no original pieces.

The museum is temporarily closed
