Project Description

Keats-Shelley Memorial House

The Keats-Shelley Memorial House is a museum house whose name is a tribute to the English poets John Keats and Percy Bysshe Shelley.

John Keats died in the apartment on the second floor in Piazza di Spagna number 25, in 1821.

The Keats-Shelley Memorial Association was founded in 1903 with the intent of collecting funds to save the palace from being demolished and to transform it into a memorial site for John Keats and Percy Shelley.

The English association has managed to create a museum inside the home of the poet, arranging rooms with memories of the English romantic poets, together with a vast library dedicated to Romanticism.

The museum was inaugurated on the 3rd of April 1909, in the presence of the king of Italy Vittorio Emanuele III.
