Project Description
Rome is committed to guaranteeing accessibility to visitors with special needs, even though, because of its long history, not all places are easy to reach.
The city has an accessible public transport system with an infrastructure that permits easy access for disabled passengers.
Buses are equipped with running boards and some underground stations have escalators and lifts. All stations have adequate flooring with tactile paths along the route which allows visually impaired passengers to reach the train they are interested in. The Underground has speakers announcing each stop.
Parking lots provide parking for people with special needs.
Disabled visitors have free passes, or reduced prices, at most of the museums and places of interest. If the disabled person requires special assistance, this is also valid for their carer.
