This was once an association of artists that had its headquarters in Rome and was officially founded in 1593 by Federico Zuccari. Its purpose was to elevate artists’ work so that it would be considered more than simple handcraft.

According to the Academy’s statute, each subscriber had to donate a painting of theirs, as a record of their work. This way a heterogeneous collection, which started in the sixteen hundreds, was created and it now contains more than a thousand canvases, drawings and sculptures.

The unique collection of sculptures and paintings that were donated by the various members who succeeded each other from the very beginning and throughout time, are conserved in the Academy’s museum, which is located inside the Carpegna Palace, close to the Trevi Fountain.
